Massage Modalities
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage targets chronic tension in muscles that lie far below the body’s surface. Deep muscle techniques involve slow strokes, direct pressure or friction movements that go across the muscle grain.
When there is chronic muscle tension or injury, there are usually adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) in muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Adhesions can block circulation and cause pain, limited movement, and inflammation. Deep tissue massage works by physically breaking down these adhesions to relieve pain and restore normal movement.
Swedish Massage
Swedish(Relaxation) massage is the form most commonly offered in spas in the U.S. and is associated with relaxation massage. Swedish massage features long, broad strokes as well as kneading, friction, percussion and vibration. The main purpose of Swedish massage is to increase the oxygen flow in the blood and release toxins from the muscles.
Neuromuscular Therapy
Neuromuscular Therapy is a specialized form of manual massage in which pressure and friction are used to release areas of strain in a muscle. Strain areas are called tender, or trigger points. Thorough examination and treatment of the body’s soft tissues using regionally oriented protocols that are taught in a step-by-step process.
Orthopedic Massage
(OM) is a type of manual therapy that focuses on the treatment and prevention of musculoskeletal dysfunction and pain. In addition to treating specific injuries, OM is used to increase range of motion, decrease and manage pain and restore normal body movement and function.
An orthopedic massage is a form of massage therapy that centers on injury rehabilitation, and focuses on the tissue and muscles around the body's joints, also known as the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic massages are often used to aid recovery in those who have undergone invasive surgery, such as hip or knee replacements, and can help to reduce any post-surgery pain or discomfort in these regions.
